BVA COACHING STAFF

 

TONY WATSON

Head Coach

Coach Watson is in his first season as Head Coach of Belle Vernon Area High School Baseball.  Previously, he served as the program's Pitching Coordinator & Varsity Assistant Coach (2014-19).  Tony is a 1993 BVA graduate, where he was a 3 year Varsity letterman in both Baseball & Basketball.  He was named to 1st team All-Section & 1st team All-WPIAL as a pitcher on the 93' BVA Playoff team.  

Tony continued his baseball career at Waynesburg University as a pitcher for Coach Steve Lee, graduating in 1998.  He was part of back-to-back PAC Championship teams in 94'-95' and was invited to regional try-outs with the Baltimore Orioles & St. Louis Cardinals.  

He has coached youth baseball in the Belle Vernon Area as well as coaching the 1998 West Newton American Legion team.  Tony also served as a BVA Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach during the 1998-99 Season.

Tony is employed by State Farm Insurance as an Office Manager and he resides in North Belle Vernon with his son, AJ (10).

STEVE HOFFMAN

Assistant Head Coach

Steve is a 1993 graduate of Frazier High School, where he was a 3-sport athlete.  He was an All-Conference/Section performer in both baseball & football and also played varsity basketball.  

Steve attended California University of PA & received his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.  

He is entering his 7th Season with BVA Baseball & has been the Middle School Head Coach, Varsity Assistant Coach & most recently the Assistant Head Coach from 2017-Present.  Prior to that, Steve also coached BVA MS Football for 2 seasons, as well as Beaver Valley Red Travel Baseball Program for 8 seasons.

Coach Hoffman & his wife, Rachel, reside in Fayette City.  They have 2 children: Josh (19) and Madi (17).  Josh was BVA's

team captain for the previous 2 years and is now attending YSU on a baseball scholarship.  Madi is currently a BVA Varsity cheerleader.

GREG STEEBER

Varsity Assistant Coach

Greg is a 1988 graduate of BVA HS, where he starred in 4 different sports (Baseball, Football, Basketball & Track).   He was a starting Center Fielder on the 1988 BVA Playoff team and was named First Team All-Section.  

He attended IUP on a full athletic scholarship for both Football & Baseball.

Greg has coached baseball, basketball and football for BVA spanning the past 25 years.  He has also coached football at Ringgold & Frazier High Schools.  Greg is currently BVA's Middle School Head Football Coach and was the Freshman Head Baseball Coach from 2014-19.  

He has been employed by the BVA School District since 2002 as the school's Technology Coordinator.  Greg resides in Belle Vernon with his wife, Melanie, and their children Tyler (21), Lindsay (19) & Tanner (15).

MIKE METIKOSH

Varsity Assistant Coach

Mike is a 1990 graduate of BVA HS, where he starred at Football (1987-89'), Baseball (1988-90') and Track (1987-88). He received All Conference & All Section honors for both Football & Baseball in 1989 & 90'.

Mike continued his athletic career at Edinboro University, where he played baseball from 1990-93'.  He graduated with a degree in Secondary Education/Math & a Master's in Educational Leadership.

Mike has been a Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach for BVA Baseball (1995-99' & 2011-17'), Westlake HS (2000), North Stafford HS (2001-04') & Mountain View HS (2005-08').  He will be returning to BVA for his 3rd stint as a Varsity Assitant & OF coach. 

Coach Met is currently employed as a teacher in the Pittsburgh School District.  He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Belle Vernon with their 3 children, Chad (16), Maren (14) & Ian (7).

NATE RAFFLE

Junior Varsity Head Coach

Nate is entering his 7th season as BVA's Junior Varisty Head Coach.  He attended Yough HS from 2003-'05, where he played varsity baseball.  He then transferred to Greensburg Central Catholic for his senior year, in which their baseball team set a school record for most wins in a season (21).  Nate played in the AA WPIAL championship game during the '06 campaign.

Coach Raffle continued his baseball career in college, playing for Young Harris (JUCO D1), Lindsey Wilson (NAIA D1) & Penn State Greater Allegheny.  Nate graduated with a degree in Information Science & Technology/Mechanical Drafting.

Following college, Nate was a minor league catcher with the Atlanta Braves Organization.  

Nate is currently employed by Raffle Construction as a foreman for his family's business.  He and his wife, Kelsea, reside in Ruffs Dale.

KEN SELIGA

Volunteer JV Assistant Coach

Ken is a graduate of Brentwood HS, where he was an All Conference Defensive Back in 1988-89.  He also played Varsity Baseball & Basketball and was a member of several WPIAL Playoff teams.

He continued his athletic career at W&J and played 3 years of football & 4 years of Baseball.  Ken received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Ken has coached youth sports in the Belle Vernon Area for almost 20 years and will be entering his 3rd season as a Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach.

Ken resides in Belle Vernon with his spouse, Melissa, and has 7 children.

PAUL MCGREW

Volunteer JV Assistant Coach

Paul graduated from BVA HS in 1993, where he played Football & Baseball.

He has coached youth sports in the Belle Vernon Area over the past 15 years & was a Volunteer Freshman Assistant Coach for the BVA Baseball team in 2017-18'.  Paul is returning for his 2nd season as a Junior Varsity Assistant Coach.  

Paul resides in Belle Vernon and has 2 children, Jake (21) & Ryan (16).

EVAN HANNAN

Freshman Head Coach

Evan Hannan joins our staff this season as the Freshman Head Coach & a strength/agility coach.  

Evan is 2016 BVA graduate, where he was a 3 year Varsity starter & a first team All-Section performer for 3 straight seasons.  He was also a team captian for 2 years & was a winner of the Mighty Leopards Award.

Evan continued his baseball career at W&J College, where he played from 2016-2019.  He was a member of 2 PAC championship teams, 2 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships & 2 appearances in the NCAA World Series.  

Evan received a bachelors of business administration & a minor in public policy.  He currently resides in Belle Vernon & we are very happy to have him back in the BVA Baseball family.

ADAM ZYSKI

Head Middle School Coach

Adam is a graduate of BVA HS, where he played Varsity baseball & basketball.  He attended college at California University of Pa, where he received a Bachelors in Secondary Mathematics & a Masters Degree in Secondary Education.

He is returning for his 2nd season as Head Middle School Coach and has previously coached BVA track in 2012 and was an Assistant Coach for BVA baseball from 2005-2008.

Adam is employed as a math teacher in the Belle Vernon Area School District and still enjoys playing softball, flag football and hockey. He currently resides in Monessen with his wife, Melissa.

JAKE AMATANGELO

Volunteer Pitching Coach

Jake is a 2017 graduate of BVA, where he was a closer on the 17' Playoff team.  He was a 3 year baseball letterman and has been very active with our local youth baseball clinics.

Jake played collegiately at St. Vincent College until a back injury ended his career after his freshman season.  He is currently studying Integrated Science, Physical Therapy & Behavioral Neuroscience.  

This will be Jake's first season on the BVA coaching staff and we are thrilled to have him.  

SCOTT SOKOL

Administrative Assistant/Press Box Manager

Scott has been active in local youth baseball for the past 2 decades and has recently assisted with the 2019 Youth Baseball Summer Instructional Camp & the BVA Fall Baseball Program.  We are looking forward to having him on board.

BOB STANGER

Statistician

Bob has been involved with RYBA for the past 14 years and is currently entering his 5th season as Varsity statistician.
